The battery in my laptop isn't holding a charge properly and due to COVID, battery replacement is not being done in stores these days.
So I called Apple to get this repair scheduled and I asked if the customer service guy with a bit of a southern accent if he had voted just yet. It turns out he lives in North Carolina. He didn't know if he could still vote early but looked it up-- the closest place would be over an hour round trip but his local location was open both before and after his shift on Tuesday. He looked it all up while we were on the call together and he gave me his full voting plan.

A lot of things are like that. You have thought about doing something. You have every intention of doing something. Other factors get between that decision and action. A simple and friendly conversation can make taking action the simple choice. Let it be easy.
Vote for Being Yourself
Do you keep searching for your fall favorites in a closet full of linen? You know it's time to do a seasonal swap but maybe it feels hard to actually do because looking at all your favorite clothing reminds you of another season and all the places you won't be going and people you are missing. But you have decided.
Vote for being yourself by making it simple to feel good in what you wear in this season by making your favorites accessible.
Even the most organized closets require periodic maintenance; this week's suggestions are for people with systems that work well and may have room for improvement.
Keep in mind: if you currently have a ratio issue (less space than you need to accommodate the stuff that you currently have to the point that clothing is on the floor or on furniture in your living space), this will persist if you do a seasonal swap.
Sweater Weather
Vote to enjoy what you have!
Cashmere sweaters and boots keep New Yorkers warm and stylish when the temperature drops. No matter how large the closet, moving your go-to lewks to your most accessible closet real estate.
The clothing you reach for all the time should be in the most valuable part of your closet. This summer, I couldn't get enough of athletic skirts and colorful tops but expect to see me sporting a lot of corduroys and elevated loungewear.
Yesterday, I packed up my summer-only clothes and replaced them with my cold-weather favorites. Seeing clothing you really enjoy wearing can be the other kind of comforting -- one that might be even more powerful than actually wearing them on a chilly day.
Welcome the Change
Vote for simple!
Packing up your warmer weather clothing so you have more room for your cooler weather clothing is can be simple if your stuff-to-space ratio is already right-sized and you maintain your clothing well year-round.
Out of reach isn't the same as unreachable! Even a basic closet with a rod and shelf (like this one) has great space. The items in the clear boxes on the shelf are accessible but not as easy to use as the items on the hangers or in the drawers, right?
This setup can make all those just-for-when items super accessible. When your snow pants and extra chunky sweaters are only a step stool away, it's easier to enjoy the chilly days ahead.
Check Your Work
Vote to take good care of your belongings because you take good care of yourself!
I'm sure you did a great job storing everything for the warmer months but it's always good to check your clothing in case something needs to be repaired or a stain to have removed. It's also good to do a quick sniff test to see if you accidentally forgot to wash something before packing it up. It might seem silly to read this but it's such a pleasure to have everything that's hanging in your closet ready to be worn. Otherwise, it’s just going to be getting between you and the clothing you want to wear.
If you're looking for bonus points, check the bottoms of your leather shoes to see if they need to be repaired and the tops to see if they could use a good polish.
You are a Decisive Voter
Showing off my Voter necklace from Sophie Ratner.
As I've moved through the city the past week, "casual conversations about the potential for another civil war" has been added to the list of things happening in 2020 that I didn't expect. Anyone else?
One of them was when I went to a favorite small business to buy a scented candle. I know for sure that lighting a nice smelling candle makes me happy. Knowing the future is hard. Knowing what you like is easy. You are a decisive voter. Voting is easy.
